About Us

Why we built Idiot Unit Converter Tools, and how it works.

Our mission

Idiot Unit Converter Tools was built around a simple idea: unit conversion should be instant, accurate, and private. Too many converter sites bury a simple calculator under intrusive ads, force a page reload for every unit change, or quietly send your input to a server for no good reason. We wanted a single, focused toolkit that does one thing — unit conversion — extremely well.

What makes this site different

Every one of our 18 tools runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. When you type a value or switch a unit, the calculation happens instantly on your own device — nothing is transmitted to a server, logged, or stored. That means the site works quickly even on a slow connection, and your data stays yours.

We also put real effort into getting the details right: distinguishing US and UK gallons, explaining the difference between a food Calorie and a chemistry calorie, noting where a "ton" might mean three different things depending on which country you're in. Every tool page includes a plain-language explanation and FAQ so you're not just getting a number, but understanding where it comes from.

Who this is for

Students, engineers, cooks, travellers, online shoppers, developers, and anyone else who occasionally needs to translate one measurement system into another. We built this for ourselves first, and we hope it's useful to you too.
